Using Flexible Scheduling to Reconnect Students and Re-Energize Teachers

Day: 09/24/2019 | Time: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM | Room: Meeting Room 206

In this presentation Jasper High School's SOI team will share their journey to become a designated Arkansas School of Innovation. The discussion will focus on three issues being addressed in the school’s innovation plan to better meet the needs of all JHS students. To make their school a place where all students want to be the culture and climate of JHS was addressed. You will hear how the students took on this issue and have made school more welcoming. To give all students more choices and personalized learning, a flexible schedule has been implemented. The schedule also gives teachers an opportunity to offer more in-depth sessions, labs/projects, allows for more intensive interventions, and makes weekly PLCs possible. To ensure each all students have guidance through school, every teacher has an advisory period. In this period, teachers can build lasting relationships, advise students on academic issues, social issues, and help prepare them for the future.
